Important Update: Federal Funding Uncertainty for MCSFP
The Michigan Climate Smart Farms Project (MCSFP) is facing uncertainty due to recent federal policies affecting USDA’s Partnerships for Climate Smart Commodities grants. While MCSFP remains current and in good standing, no payments have been issued since January 20, 2025, and there is no guarantee of when or if funding will resume.

Empowering Michigan Farms
The Michigan Climate Smart Farms Program empowers and certifies farms in adopting climate-smart practices that enhance soil health, sequester carbon, reduce emissions, and adapt to the challenges of climate change.
About the Project
The Michigan Climate Smart Farm Project (MCSFP) is developing a climate-smart farm verification program for the state. The program is focused on assisting small and diversified farms, initially in Washtenaw, Monroe, Wayne, and Lenawee Counties.
This pilot project in southeastern Michigan will inform the development of a statewide program in future years.
A final report on the CSFV system and findings will be presented to the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD) with the goal of becoming part of the MAEAP program or a stand-alone program.

Adaptation
Enhance the capacity of agricultural systems and communities to adapt to changing climatic conditions while ensuring sustainable food production, livelihoods, and ecosystem resilience.
Mitigation
Reduce or offset greenhouse gas emissions within the industry through efficient use of resources, increased soil health, enhanced carbon sequestration.
Productivity
Increase efficiency and effectiveness of agricultural systems with improved crop varieties, better agronomic practices, and enhanced management techniques in order to maximize outputs per unit of inputs.
