Its not too late
The Michigan Climate Smart Farms Project (MCSFP) is leading the way in helping farmers adopt sustainable, climate-smart practices to ensure the long-term health of our environment and communities. By working together, we can transform Michigan’s agricultural landscape into one that is resilient, productive, and environmentally responsible. Your support can make all the difference.
Why Support MCSFP?
Empowering Farmers: We provide farmers with the tools, knowledge, and resources they need to implement climate-smart practices.
Protecting the Environment: By reducing greenhouse gas emissions, improving soil health, and conserving water, we are addressing critical environmental challenges.
Strengthening Communities: Supporting local farmers contributes to thriving rural communities and ensures access to healthy, locally grown food.
Acute Need for Support: Federal Funding Uncertainty
The recent federal executive orders have introduced significant uncertainty in grant funding for Conservation Districts across Michigan. As the Michigan Climate Smart Farms Project is primarily grant-funded, this uncertainty poses a critical challenge to our ability to continue delivering essential conservation services.
Why This Matters Now
Michigan’s Conservation Districts rely almost exclusively on grants and have minimal operational funding from other sources. Any delay in grant payments—even for a month—could be catastrophic, leading to staff layoffs, disrupted services, and even insolvency for many districts.
The potential funding freeze is already impacting our operations, with staff reassigned or laid off in some districts, and resources diverted to navigate the implications of these changes.
Disruptions in our services will have widespread effects on local communities, including setbacks in water quality projects, agricultural production, and conservation programs essential to Michigan’s environmental and economic health.
This moment underscores the importance of private donations and foundational support to sustain our work through these uncertainties. Your immediate contribution can help ensure that conservation services remain uninterrupted, our workforce remains intact, and Michigan continues to lead in climate-smart agriculture.

About Our Fiduciary: The Michigan Association of Conservation Districts
The Michigan Association of Conservation Districts (MACD) is the fiduciary for the Michigan Climate Smart Farms Project. MACD works to strengthen Michigan’s Conservation Districts through leadership, information, and representation at the State level.
MACD is a 501(c)3 charitable organization, created in 1941 by Michigan Conservation Districts to be the statewide voice for Conservation Districts and to support their important work as local providers of natural resource management services. MACD achieves this through legislative advocacy, public outreach, education, grant support, and business programs that equip Michigan Conservation Districts with the skills and tools needed to better serve their communities.
